Dave Downing Appeal – Walk for Wards
Southend University Hospital Charity – Walk for Wards
Sunday 18th September 2016
Uncle Toms Cabin to Chalkwell Shelter 7Kms
I have signed up to do this walk as I would like to raise some money as a way of saying thank you to the Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Departments of Prittlewell Ward for all their help encouragement and support in teaching me to walk again following my operation.
Briefly about this time last year I had a Brain Tumour partially removed and following the operation I lost the use of my left leg. I was transferred from Queens Hospital Romford to Southend Hospital, Prittlewell Ward for rehabilitation. In just over a week they had taught me to walk with the aid of a splint and walking stick. I spent a total of 7 weeks in hospital.
At the present time I have no control over my left ankle and my left foot is just a piece of jelly.so the splint enables me to be mobile.I have given up the stick Since the operation to the best of my knowledge I have not walked the required distance but an determined to do so on the 18th.
This walk is an annual event but I only intend doing it on this one occasion and would like to raise as much money as possible.
If you feel that you could support me I have an online fund raising page at JUST GIVING
Whilst in Southend Hospital Dave Lowe was in a room close to mine and the treatment he received was second to none with a nurse being in attendance 24 hrs per day.
Thank you very much for reading this and hopefully supporting me
Very best wishes
