Chelmsford Branch December 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to the Chelmsford Branch December 2018 Newsletter. You will notice a few changes this quarter, after several years producing our Newsletters, Brian Ladd is stepping down to concentrate on his duties as Branch Membership Secretary. On your behalf, I would like to thank Brian for his dedication to the task and for keeping us entertained and updated during his period as Editor. I will be writing the newsletter up to our 2019 AGM.

Now onto more serious matters. After a period of relative stability, we find ourselves in need of several Branch Officer and Committee volunteers, this is where we need your active support!

Our current Secretary\Treasurer, Roy Scanes, has announced that, currently, he does not intend to seek re-election in 2019. The Committee will be sorry to see Roy go and wish to thank him for his support over recent years.

Clearly, these are vital posts if we are to secure the future of our Branch. Ideally, we would like to split the two Branch Officer roles and go forward with separate post holders for Secretary and Treasurer. The workload for each role is probably no more than an average of two to three hours a week but the Branch cannot survive without an effective Secretary and Treasurer. I would urge all members, who have access to a computer and the internet, to seriously consider whether they can assist the Branch by putting themselves forward for one of the roles.

Additionally, our Welfare Officer – Tim Stokes, would like some help in assisting our members with their welfare needs. Your Committee places great importance on welfare matters, through our contacts we have access to considerable resources and we do our very best to make life more comfortable for our retired colleagues.

I cannot over emphasise the importance of filling these posts. Without willing volunteers coming forward, we will be forced to consider the viability of our Branch for the future. If you think you can help please contact me in the first instance for an informal chat so that I can fill in some of the detail: email: Bob or call my mobile 07941 083696.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

You may have seen from NARPO News that 2019 is the 100th anniversary of our organisation. Your Committee will be considering what we can do to mark the occasion and we have scheduled this as a substantive agenda item for out meeting on 28 January. If you have ideas to put forward, please send them to me in advance of that date.

Please note the date of the 2019 AGM has been confirmed for 20:00 hours on Monday 15 April, at our usual venue, Essex Police Sports & Social Club, Police Headquarters, off St. Margaret’s Road, Chelmsford. We really need your support this year, please do your very best to attend.

Your Committee has continued to support our widow members and Christmas vouchers are being sent out this week.

And finally, I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2019.
