Essex Police Remembrance – Sat 1 Jun
Remembering all colleagues who have died in service, on the 30th anniversary of a tragic diving accident.
A short remembrance event will be held at HQ memorial stone on Saturday 1 June for those who wish to remember colleagues who have died on duty to come together and celebrate lost lives and give thanks for the privilege of life that has continued.
The date is a significant one as it marks the 30th anniversary of the death of two serving officers from the Force Support Unit (FSU), PC Steve (Buck) Taylor and PC Andrew Morrison. PC Taylor died on 1 June 1989 and PC Morrison the day after. They got into difficulties during a diving training exercise in a gravel pit near Hoddesdon.
As a unit, the FSU has suffered the loss of many others whilst still in service and therefore this occasion will be used to remember all former officers who have died on duty or whilst still serving.
If you wish to attend this event, please complete the below form so that we can be prepared for numbers. HQ Sports Pavilion is in use for another occasion that day but, if buffet arrangements are sought, please indicate in advance. Please share this item with others who might wish to attend as many will now have retired.
We each grieve and remember in our own way but if anyone wishes to speak for a colleague, again please contact me.
As always, the opportunity to meet old friends is always a memorable occasion and one that those who have passed would have wanted.
We will be meeting from 11.30am for a 12 midday start. The remembrance will be led by a Humanistic Celebrant, with music provided by the Essex Police Band.
