Monday 20th April 2020 AGM – Annual General Meeting at HQ Sports Pavillion

Due to the continuing issues with the coronavirus a decision has been made by the Committee to cancel the AGM in its normal format to safeguard members welfare. The meeting was scheduled to take place at 2000hrs on Monday 20th April 2020, it will still take place at this time but by way of a conference call. If you wish to join the conference call could you please email EssexChelmsford@narpo.org so I can send you an invite with details of how to join the call. If you are intending joining the call and would like a copy of the reports/agenda then please email Brian Ladd membershipsec.narpo.chelmsford@gmail.com

The meeting will be a relatively short meeting to discuss core and urgent business and the agenda will cover:

  1. Adoption of accounts for 2019
  2. Election of the Committee for 2020/21
  3. Any other urgent business

Also if you would like to nominate yourself for any positions on the committee please notify us in advance of this meeting.

Saturday 6th June 2020 – Get Together at HQ Sports Pavillion

Our usual Saturday morning get together is still planned for this date at present.

Our speaker will be Geoffrey Markham, who I am sure many of you know well. Geoff will speak for approx 45 mins.

His talk will be about a young Essex man killed in the First World War whose story remained undiscovered for nearly a century. It is then almost accidentally stumbled over, thoroughly researched and has since had remarkable ramifications. An Essex school and a village church in central Essex are critical stops along the way to understanding a story which, to his mind, is at least the equal of that told in the current film “1917”.

Following this we intend having an open forum/discussion on the recent tv dramatisation of the Bamber, White House Farm murders – a debate which was suggested by a member at a previous meeting.

Simply Stride will be holding a masterclass following the meeting at 12.00hrs, which will be funded by the branch so its free for you to attend. This is not a gym workout, but a light exercise class aimed at enhancing your well being and fitness and I think will benefit members. Approximately 30 people can attend the class so please email me on EssexChelmsford@narpo.org if you are intending coming. This will be on a first come first serve basis due to the limited numbers. A few have already registered so please book in.

Message from Anne Blyde re. Cancellation of John Blydes Memorial Day

To all my family and friends,

I have had to cancel my late husband’s Memorial Service due to this dreadful virus. I just cannot go ahead knowing that people could be at risk of getting it. It was a hard decision to make, but I believe it is the right one.

I will arrange another date but it will probably be next year.

Stay safe
