NARPO Chelmsford Weekly Update 23rd Sep ’19

Social Activities

I hope you are all well. Its been quite a busy week with NARPO which started last Monday when myself and the Chairman attended Colchester Branch’s meeting. It was nice to see how other branches conduct their business and we were made to feel very welcome. I look forward to working more closely with them towards joint ventures to benefit our members.

Colchester members enjoy social activities together, they have a ramblers club that a few attend and go walking together as well as golf and lunches, it would be nice if Chelmsford branch did something similar.

At that meeting, one of the members asked if people would be interested in an indoor bowls competition between the three branches and their Secretary has asked me to float this idea past our branch. So if any of you would be interested in getting involved with indoor bowls with Colchester branch then please email me and I will pass your details on.

As I said earlier I would really like to see our Branch getting together for social activities, ie trips, lunches, or sporting activities. I am trying to arrange things as you are aware and Peter Sharps get together on 12th October and the Financial Wellbeing Seminar on 31st October is the start of this.

If any of you have any ideas, suggestions or things you would like us to try to arrange could you please let me know and I will discuss them with the committee at our next meeting on 28th October

Is Your Mortgage the Right Option For You?

Hanson Wealth, who are coming to talk to us on 31st October at our Financial Wellbeing Seminar, have asked me to circulate the below to you:

We’d like to make sure NARPO members and their families never pay more than they need to. One of the NARPO Gold Partners is Hanson Mortgage Brokers and you may wish to take advantage of their no-charge mortgage review service.

“We do this by assessing your financial situation and making sure you’re on the right mortgage deal for your needs. We also have access to exclusive deals that aren’t available on the high street which, again, gives you more variety. Our advisers are available to you over the phone, so you don’t have to come to see us, we can get all the information we need with a phone call.”

It’s that simple. Click on the attached PDF for more information.

Update on the Latest Memorial Campaign to PC Gutteridge in Wimbotsham, West Norfolk

Please see below from Bernard Mullin :

I have campaigned over the last 18 months to establish a memorial to PC “Bill” Gutteridge in Wimbotsham, West Norfolk where he was born in 1889. Prior to this, many in the village and surrounding area were unaware of his existence and the effect his brutal death had on initiating the emergency call system of our country plus the pioneering use of ballistics evidence.

After much negotiation with the relevant authorities who warmly welcomed my proposal with positive suggestions subsequently included which would enhance the heritage of the village and surrounding area, a further memorial is to be raised in the near future. This will be in the form of a memorial board comprising a mounted and inscribed brass plaque kindly donated by the Chief Constable of Norfolk, Mr. Simon Bailey with a head and shoulders image of PC Gutteridge in uniform above this. Selected Norfolk companies, specialists and craftsmen have provided time, materials and expert knowledge free of charge in support this memorial to a fallen Norfolk man officer of the law and they will be duly acknowledged.

Adjacent to the brass plaque will sit a storyboard headed proudly by the helmet regalia of both Essex and Norfolk Constabularies. I have attached images of the completed memorial board and a separate copy of the storyboard inscription I composed and was approved by the descendants of PC Gutteridge.

I also attach a copy of the feature the Norfolk Magazine ran in the May issue of this year.

I will advise everyone of the date and details of the unveiling ceremony in due course.

With kind regards to all, Bernard Mullin
