New Horizons October NARPO Essex
The NARPO annual conference took place this month, with branch officials from around the country making the journey down to Torquay to hear more about plans for NARPO’s centenary year as well updates on our campaigning work and membership. The theme of ‘life, work and leisure’ created an interesting panel debate, featuring Sunday Times bestselling author, Clare Mackintosh.
MPS “return scheme”
Metropolitan Police is inviting around 2,500 officers who are due to leave the service or have retired in the past two years to apply to re-enter the force. The “return scheme” aims to retain officers with valuable skills and experience. Successful applicants will re-enter the force at their former rank and “with the same level of financial reward as when they left”.
Fears voiced for police service future
Chief Superintendent Gavin Thomas, the president of the Police Superintendents’ Association, says the service in England and Wales is reliant on fewer people working longer and harder.
Speaking at the Association’s annual conference, he voiced “genuine fears” for the service in England and Wales, and urged Home Secretary Sajid Javid and police leaders to take “difficult and bold” decisions.
Acts of Kindness
Caring for a loved one can bring many challenges and difficulties including the feeling of extreme isolation, stress, and tiredness. This is a problem because even though many say it is a rewarding experience overall, carers rarely get a break or the chance to relax.
If you know a carer who works tirelessly each day and deserves some appreciation, you can now nominate them for a Police Mutual ‘Acts of Kindness’ and reward them with a hamper or a bunch of flowers.
NARPO branded clothing
NARPO has partnered with Stitch & Print, a supplier of quality embroidered and printed clothing, to offer members a new range of NARPO branded clothing.
Items include men and women’s polo shirts, hoodies and jumpers, in a range of sizes and colours.
