Please let me first introduce myself. I am Andrea Kelley Volunteer Development Manager for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity. We are currently looking to recruit a number of volunteer drivers across Essex to provide transport to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness to hospital appointments or to one of our support groups.
We are looking to approach the Police, Ambulance and Fire Service to see if this is something they would promote internally for us? We are particularly interested in targeting retired officers and I wondered if this is something you would promote within the Chelmsford Retired Police Officers network?
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. For these families, life is unthinkably tough. Their lives are shattered into a million pieces as they struggle to cope with the possibility that their child might die. Rainbow Trust has teams of Family Support Workers who support the whole family, in a place of their choice, we are not a hospice.
In the last year we supported over 2,000 families through our Family Support teams in Sunderland, Cumbria, Manchester, Essex, Surrey, Swindon, Southampton, Central and West London.
Our Family Support Workers go wherever they are needed, helping in any way they can, to make life just a little bit easier. Because of their support, families are better able to cope and can face the future, whatever it may hold.
Rainbow Trust relies on public generosity to fund the majority of the vital work we do with families. Less than 3% comes from statutory funding.
We currently have a team of 420 volunteers who get involved in all aspects of our work. Rainbow Trust relies on the support of its volunteers to operate, without the invaluable support of our volunteers we would not be able to help as many families as we are, but we always need more help.
Thank you for your time.
