Southend Branch Trips Newsletter April 2018
In this newsletter we have temporarily changed our booking and payment system. We cannot accept telephone or postal bookings between 4 May 2018 and 6 June 2018. You will only be able to book between those dates by using email. From 7th June 2018 it will be back to normal.
Following a discussion in committee we have decided to increase the subsidy we provide to members for our trips. This will affect new trips only, not those previously arranged. Our charges for non members will as ever only cover our costs. We will not be seeking to make a profit from them. You will see the difference reflected in the prices in this newsletter. If you have not travelled with us before we hope this will encourage you to give us a try?
National Memorial Arboretum
On Saturday 30 June 2018 (Armed Forces Day, UK) we have arranged a visit to the ‘National Memorial Arboretum‘. There you will find many memorials, gardens and exhibits reflecting all branches of our armed forces and also the Police Service. We have booked a land train tour of the site (included in the cost) that will help orientate first time visitors and refresh those of you who have visited before. There are good catering facilities for you to purchase refreshments. We have a few places left.
In 2015 we had a hugely successful evening with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and their concert featuring The Music of Bond. Some of you asked if we would do it again, so here it is, “The Music of Bond”.
There will again be a varied programme featuring singers and the orchestra. We have great stall seats for the evening performance on Wednesday 19 September 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall at our usual hugely reduced rate.
We’ll stop on the way to allow you time to purchase a bite to eat.
We are not going to Thursford this year, but we have arranged to see ‘Christmas Spectacular’ at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, on Sunday 16 December 2001. The producers promise a cracker of a show with a full show band, West End vocalists and dancers. The show will be full of festive favourites, special effects and fun, and a snow-filled finale. It should be an unmissable Christmas party!
On a recent very successful trip to see Strictly Ballroom we were asked to try for tickets for ‘Tina’ the Tina Turner musical. We have spoken with folk who have seen the show and they described it as the best musical they have seen. Indeed, the reviews all give it five out of five stars! We have contacted our agent and they have arranged some great central stall seats face price £79.50! Here is your chance to see it too.
Cirque du Soleil – Totem
2019 sees the return of Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall with their production of ‘Totem’. We have contacted them in Canada and reserved great stall seats in the front two rows on Wednesday 20 February 2019. The pricing is determined by how many seats we sell. Please do not pay until we contact you to confirm the cost which we hope to be able to reduce.
We have arranged secure parking for your cars at the Len Forge Centre (LFC), Eastwoodbury Lane, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 6UH, where our trips start. The centre is located next to the mini roundabout at the junction of Eastwoodbury Lane with Whitehouse Road and Snakes Lane.
When you first park there we will issue you a small badge that you will be required to display in your vehicle. Please retain the badge for future use. If you do not display a badge you may return to find your car has gained a “ticket”.
We may ask you once a year to let us have the details of your car so that we can update the LFC records.
You are required to park at the rear of the buildings and parking will be at the driver’s risk. No responsibility for damage or loss etc will be accepted by the centre. You will be able to use the toilets and bar facilities if the centre is open.
We pay for your parking and therefore ask that you restrict the number of vehicles you use as much as possible.

Booking Terms & Conditions
Please pay by the date shown in the chart at the rear of this newsletter!
Please, please read and take note of our booking and payment terms and conditions! We still have to chase far too many folk for overdue payments! We set payment dates to match those given to us by service providers (boat companies, hotels and ticket agencies etc.). Without your payment we cannot pay them! Check the payment date for your trip in the right hand column of the chart and ensure we receive your payment before that date. If your payment is not received by the due date we reserve the right to cancel your booking without notice to you. We do not accept cash. Cheques must be payable to N.A.R.P.O. We need a separate cheque for each trip you book and one cheque for your whole group is helpful. If you book for a group of people who insist on paying with separate cheques, you must send them all to us at the same time. As with any commercial operator if you book for others, you are responsible for getting their payment to us. Please write the trip to which the cheque relates on the rear of the cheque using the description in the chart at the end of the newsletter. Please also show the name of the person booking the trip if necessary (e.g. a building society cheque which has no name on it). We do not require a covering letter. If we require a deposit we will tell you in the chart at the end of the newsletter! Remember deposits should always be regarded as non refundable.
If you cancel a booking we may still require you to pay N.A.R.P.O. the balance due if you have not done so by the time you cancel. If you do cancel we will always try to refund any monies you have paid, but we may not always be able to do so if we cannot re-claim the cost or if it will have an adverse effect on the overall costs. All trips include a gratuity for our coach driver. By booking with us you are deemed to have accepted these conditions.
We do not arrange insurance cover for you. If you need insurance for any trip e.g. South Wales, it is your responsibility to arrange the cover!
The stand by system is working well so if there are any trips showing as ‘fully booked’ that you’d like to go on, tell us and as and when any cancellations are received you will be offered an opportunity to take them up.
Lyn and I are more than happy to deal with any issues re the trips, but we’d appreciate not being contacted on Sundays or at an unreasonable time of the day. Before contacting us please read this or past newsletters. You will probably find the information you want there.
If you need to discuss anything not trip related, please contact the appropriate committee member whose details are at the bottom of each page of this newsletter. We only deal with matters relating to the trips we organise.
